WF Gillespie Energy Star Partner

W.F. Gillespie Construction is proud to be a new Energy Star Partner in Citrus County, Florida.

Energy Star is a Department of Energy program that recognizes both the homeowner and builder’s commitment to reducing energy use and costs.  Not only will Energy Star help you reduce utility costs, but it will provide a quieter, safer home that will increase in value.

Improving energy efficiency with ENERGY STAR is also an important first step in the growing trend of “green remodeling.” That’s because the energy we use in our homes often comes from the burning of fossil fuels at power plants, which contributes to smog, acid rain, and global warming. So, the less energy we use in our homes, the less air pollution we generate.

Most people are familiar with Energy Star rated appliances that reduce energy costs in the home. But, the main focus of Energy Star building involves much more. Take a few moments to read how W.F. Gillespie Construction can help you leave less of a footprint on the environment and help you save money in the long run.

The most important part of an Energy Star home will involve “tightening” up the structure. Improving a home’s “envelope” or “shell” by sealing up air leaks and adding insulation can lower utility bills, while improving comfort and energy efficiency. ENERGY STAR Home Sealing also makes homes quieter by reducing outside noise and can help prevent pollutants, such as pollen and car exhaust from the garage, from entering a home. ENERGY STAR Home Sealing improvements can save homeowners up to 20 percent on annual heating and cooling bills.

Ducts that move air to and from a forced air furnace, central air conditioner, or heat pump are often big energy wasters. Sealing and insulating ducts can improve the efficiency of a home’s heating and cooling system by as much as 20 percent.
High utility bills in summer and winter can often be traced to air leaks in your home’s envelope, inefficient windows or heating and cooling equipment, or poorly sealed and insulated ducts.

Water leaks or high humidity can lead to mold and mildew. This can cause wood rot, structural damage, peeling paint, and a variety of health problems.

Cold air coming into or going out of your house, especially through leaks hidden in the attic can cause rooms to feel drafty and uncomfortable.

Inefficient windows or high indoor moisture levels from air leaks can result in condensation, frost, or pools of water on windows and sills.

Significant differences in temperature from one room to another could be caused by several factors, including inadequate insulation, air leakage, and poor duct performance.
Each project is coordinated through Energy Star with the assistance of a Home Energy Rating Specialist (HERS Rater).

The HERS rater will conduct numerous test while accumulating data to make sure the structure meets all requirements.
